Competitive Base Salary, 15% target Bonus

We have an immediate need for an experienced Analytical Chemist for our New Jersey facility (petro / chemical / industrial manufacturing environment). They have developed some of the petrochemical industry’s most significant process technologies, which are used today to produce millions of tons of petrochemical intermediates in numerous licensed process plants worldwide. Their technologies are used in a multitude of products including polyesters, plastic bottles, vehicle components and consumer products. This is a highly specialized group of professionals (80% have Master's degree or higher!), great tenure, strong focus on research and development, dynamic challenging work. 

The Analytical Chemist will support the growing needs from process development and chemistry innovations improvement and to foster competitive advantages. The incumbent works closely with engineers and chemists to design and perform tests to advance process chemistry and design, serving to detect and/or quantify the presence, amount properties, function or composition of impurity materials of interests in process improvement and/or troubleshooting.

The position is for an experienced analytical chemist with primary technical specialties on modern chromatograph techniques. 
•    Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical equipments of chromatograph and spectroscopy techniques (GC, HPLC, IC, UV-Vis), in a development and pilot lab, to support new process and chemistry development initiatives in Ethylene Oxide engineering and licensing technology. 
•    Accountable to develop and validate new analytical methods, ensure methods are fully rigorously tested, with minimal supervision, author new SOPs and method development & validation reports. Be able to conduct demonstrations and trainings to internal customers, chemists, and/or external client laboratories.
•    Strong on critical thinking to translate a process problem into an attackable analytical problem, and to develop and deliver a practical solution. Be able to enact a problem-resolving process and drive results.
•    Accountable to supporting the design and execution of perplexed analytical systems.
•    Demonstrate capabilities to properly assess, design experiments, and perform field sampling (including gases) under restrains of safety, technical, operational, and/or time-sensitive conditions. Be able to integrate, process, analyze, and present data to stakeholders at all levels with limited analytical chemistry background.
•    Closely work with Process Development Group engineers and chemists to provide analytical chemistry expertise and consultancy in both bench-scale and pilot scale units. Use analytical chemistry knowledge to help on results interpretation.
•    Use project management skills to achieve on-goal, on-time, and on-budget completion of analytical support projects, willing to meet new challenges and acquire new skill sets as needed in projects.
•    Visit client labs in chemical plants (globally) to directly interact with client labs and plant operation teams to support development projects and be able to transfer best practice from to client labs.
•    Be able to handle shipping of chemicals domestically or international for gas cylinders, liquid samples, and chemicals. Be familiar with shipping regulations and (international) logistics companies. Be able to communicate and fulfill local regulatory needs per customs requirements with guidance.

Desired Qualifications:
•    B.S. / M.S. in Analytical Chemistry (required). GPA 3.3 or higher is required.
•    2-7+ years hands on experiences in modern chromatography techniques, method development and trouble shooting skills on GC, IC, HPLC in a R&D lab or petrochemical plant/pilot lab environment.
•    Demonstrated proficiency in analytical chemistry, critical thinking, self initiative, and team work.
•    Advanced skills with liquid chromatography softwares.
•    Must have successful experiences on issued SOPs and/or written analytical methods.
•    Familiarity with Chemical Engineering is desired but not required.
•    Skills in making gas blends from gas cylinders, and skills in gas sampling and handling, are highly desired.
•    Able to travel domestically for trainings in equipment vendors’ sites and transfer methods into main lab.
•    Able to travel internationally and setup analytical methods in a new lab environment (up to 20%).
•    Project management expertise, as well as be able to communicate well and contribute either individually or as a part of a team.
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•    Published contributions to analytical chemistry field is a plus but not required.
