Position Summary
Seeking a Corporate Controller to be responsible for daily oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities, including developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. Working under the direction of the CFO, the Controller supervises a staff of four to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and tax preparation.
 
Minimum Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics and 3+ years’ experience in Public Accounting or 5 years’ experience in financial analysis required.
  • Accounting/GAAP knowledge with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel) required.
  • CPA and experience in high-growth restaurant or retail environment with multiple entities preferred.
  • Excellent verbal/written/interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain strong cross-functional relationships, including with company’s external auditors.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a strong attention to details with keen sense of accountability.
  • Strong organizational/time management skills, including ability to prioritize work effectively/autonomously and meet deadlines while dealing with a significant workload.
  • Internally motivated to seek out answers, generate ideas, and develop new skills.
  • Ability to identify and share innovative ideas towards streamlining and improving processes.
 
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department.
  • Obtain/maintain thorough understanding of the general ledger, accounting policies and procedures, and operational structure.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing processes or procedures to improve control, measurement, and/or productivity.
  • Coordinate financials questions/answers amongst departments and collaborate with other finance team members to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Support internal and external reporting, audit and tax requests as required.
  • Work with CFO and each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor/advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Monitor/ensure timely identification of and compliance with evolving accounting guidance and provide GAAP interpretation and document issues in a clear, logical, and comprehensive manner;
  • Research and monitor technical accounting related to US GAAP, SEC reporting, PCAOB guidance, etc.
  • Assist in the budget and forecast process and maintain this information throughout the year.
  • Maintain high-level of compliance with policies and procedures.
