Job Description
Director of Manufacturing-Salem OR
Our client supplies fruits, vegetables, vegetable blends and other products such as frozen soups, fruit toppings, roasted vegetables and vegetable with sauce. They operate 3 processing plants in Oregon, one Washington and a state of the art packaging plant in Oregon.
Food safety and quality are a priority and all facilities are GDSI certified annually.
  • B.S in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering or food science strongly preferred; however, equivalent experience with a business degree is also acceptable.
  • A minimum of ten years' experience with ten years at the plant level.
  • Experience in food or dairy processing is highly preferred.
  • Experience in high speed packaging and processing is preferred.
  • Experience with small-scale waste treatment is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with Clean-in-Place, pasteurization/sterilization methods, and Ready-to-Eat environments are preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge of USDA/FDA regulatory requirements and design practices, BRC Standards, OSHA, GMPs, and related regulations.
  • Excellent formal and informal communication skills, professional attitude, and professional appearance are necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes, varying degrees of responsibility and work environments.
  • Demonstrated responsiveness and personal flexibility including willingness to adjust work hours to match project requirements and willingness to travel.
  • Familiarity with Ladder Logic Programming using Allen Bradley PLCs is desirable.
  • Familiarity with OEE software and HMI applications using Wonderware software is beneficial.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD LT MS Project, One Note)
  • Provide leadership to support all packaging and process staff and systems to meet USDA & FDA standards in a high speed, high volume packaged foods environment.
  • Develop Annual Operating Plan with input from broader organization.
  • Develop Key metrics and reporting system to communicate results and set goals.
  • Develop Annual and 3-year Cap-Ex plan for plants.
  • Assist plant managers with construction planning and equipment installation projects; develop project proposals, project schedules, and oversee project implementations.
  • Develop process and packaging operations SOPs for plants in cooperation with cross-functional work teams.
  • Be an instrumental part of a high performing organization by contributing in a positive and constructive manner and assisting others to reach common goals.

  • Stay on top of trends within the industry by participating in specific organizations.
  • Assist in new design and design changes needed to facilitate installations, improve equipment efficiency, and reduce cost of operation.
  • Prepare conceptual engineering designs and floor plans for process and packaging equipment,
    including equipment layout, interpretation of plans and specifications, communicating and establishing control lines with trades and sub-contractors.
  • Work to ensure construction/installations progress as scheduled and that work meets internal specifications and quality requirements.
  • Maintain and catalog plant project documentation including CAD drawings (electronic & paper), equipment submittals and drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Support operational performance improvements efforts. Identify opportunities to reduce labor and/or energy and improve process and equipment quality and efficiency through sound engineering and design practices; providing leadership to drive positive changes in the operation.
  • Research engineering topics, perform studies and prepare reports for executive review. Prepare basic engineering calculations, maintain engineering records, and perform field observations and surveys.
