Engineering Manager – Plant and Facilities Engineering
Location:  near Pittsburgh PA

Intro:  This global supplier of   food ingredients and equipment  has had an influx of capital money and they are upgrading facilities and staff.
They have  relocated the current Plant Engineer/ Maintenance Manager to a larger plant and  plan  to replace him with this Engineering Manager (plus they will add a new maintenance group supervisor as well).

As Engineering Manager, with full responsibility for Capital Project and site Maintenance, you’ll become an empowered leader at this small food ingredient manufacturing site.   Generally speaking, your responsibilities will include over site for the equipment and facilities on-site.   You’ll be the site Lead Project Engineer encouraged to view the site as a “blank sheet of paper” in terms of future projects and preventative maintenance activities. There is a capital budget to spend which should make for an exciting and rewarding challenge.  There will also be a Maintenance Supervisor reporting to you who will in turn manage the day to day maintenance activities.  This small manufacturing site includes a mechanical fabrication shop as well as chemical mixing and blending facilities.  You’ll be responsible to projects in these areas as well as overall building and facilities upgrades.  ($1MM)
You will be empowered to prioritize and implement the sites equipment and procedural upgrades, drawing from your past experience in other manufacturing facilities.  This site functions much like a small company with no cumbersome corporate red tape and yet they are part of a larger multi-site group.   There will be some shared services resources to draw on, but there will also be a high level of autonomy with this position.  

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the sites Capital Budget and the Maintenance Operating Budget ( $1MM); Responsible for properly maintaining approximately $6 million of plant equipment and facilities
  • Develop the site capital plan as a key contributor in evaluating project return on investment (ROI) and prioritizing for site continuous improvement.
  • Participate in site debottlenecking and troubleshooting efforts as the lead mechanical engineer on site.
  • Implement reliability based engineering techniques including equipment upgrade projects; create and track equipment reliability metrics to reduce process bottlenecks that arise from equipment downtime.
  • Upgrade preventative maintenance programs (PM)
  • Develop the site capital plan as a key contributor in evaluating project return on investment (ROI) and prioritizing
  • Act as venture Project Manager for larger upgrades and oversees third party contractors
  • Complete the engineering and implement small capital projects ($10k-$50k).
  • Work in partnership with the EHS staff to review safety & health aspects of maintenance and construction procedures.
Qualifications:
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineer
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing plants preferable with some times spent in a food manufacturing environments or chemical manufacturing.  (GMP and FDA)
  • Has recently completed capital projects including diverse engineering experience with mechanical and electrical systems (i.e. simple electrical circuits, electrical controls, mechanical equipment design, pneumatic, hydraulics and equipment fabrication.)
  • Has experience with  budgetary over-site
  • Working knowledge of plant utility systems
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the USA and interested in living near Pittsburgh PA.

  • Experience working with union labor - this is a vary cooperative union-management  relationship
  • Hands on mechanical skills are helpful but not required
