Job Description
Position Summary 
This position provides support to leaders within various levels of the organization on HR and employee issues; coaches leaders on best practices that foster a positive work environment; assists in developing and improving processes across diverse human resource functions such as recruiting, training, and employee relations; understands and applies applicable local, state and federal regulations to employment situations; and guides leaders on proactive approaches to optimize business results.   Some travel may be required.
 
The position requires knowledge of the principles, practices and sound techniques in many of the key areas of HR administration; ability to apply and quickly adapt practices and techniques to meet the needs of the business; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with management, employees, vendors, and others; ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in verbal and written form in front of small and large groups; and the ability to organize, retrieve and report information.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  (Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Partner with hiring managers to fill vacant positions, develop job descriptions, screen resumes, schedule and conduct interviews, and evaluate candidates through external assessments, and background checks to select the best candidate for the job within the approved salary range in accordance with Affirmative Action requirements.
  • Work with HR Director to develop and improve recruiting processes and methods
  • Communicate and assist with interpreting policies for managers and employees.  Contribute to the development of new and revised Human Resource related policies and processes.
  • Improve manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluate potential solutions; implement selected solution; coach and counsel managers and employees.
  • Handle employee concerns and complaints in a humble and approachable manner to ensure that every employee feels “heard” and respectfully treated.
  • Conduct new employee on-boarding activities.  Promote an understanding of the company’s strategy and culture.  Assist employees with inquiries.
  • Minimize risk by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, including FMLA, FLSA, ADA, GINA, etc.
  • Plan employee activities that have a positive impact on the culture and enhance employee relations.  Assists HR Director with company events.
  • Review corrective action documents to ensure compliance with company policies and practices.
  • Process Leave of Absences in accordance with applicable employment laws and company policy.
  • Process payroll in absence of HR and Payroll Coordinator
  • Assist with Workers’ Compensation and safety initiatives as needed.  
  • Assists with internal investigations and makes appropriate recommendations;
  • Complete special projects by clarifying project objective, setting timetables and schedules, conducting research, organizing information and developing written and verbal reports.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the company’s business, products, customers and people
  • Proactively participate in self-development activities to update job knowledge; read professional publications; maintain professional networks by participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
 
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience:  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or other closely-related area of study
  • At least three years’ experience in an HR generalist-type role
  • At least one year experience with employee relations and recruiting for exempt and non-exempt positions is required 
  • Experience with training and managing leaves of absence are preferred
  • An HR certification is preferred. 
  • Experience working in manufacturing is preferred
