Maintenance Manager - TPM emphasis - Production Equipment focus

Global consumer packaged goods manufacturer seeks a Maintenance and Engineering Manager to lead a maintenance and engineering team at the company's flagship site north of Hartford, CT.  The Maintenance Manager will: 

Lead the plant to successful TPM implementation and the related pillars, including Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance, Autonomous Maintenance, and Focused Improvement. Development and implementation of a strong predictive/condition based maintenance program. Defining and communicating a set of metrics to allow the team to understand actual performance against specific goals on a daily basis. Development of a critical equipment list and associated strategic maintenance plan. This position is also responsible for progressive management of over 2.8MM of maintenance parts inventory and implementing obsolete part reduction plans.  Success factors for this position include, but are not limited to: 0 safety incidents, world class downtime of 3% or less, successful TPM implementation and providing clear expectations and follow up to direct reports.
  • Overall responsibility for the progressive maintenance of the site including providing strategic and tactical direction to the team members responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of highly automated food processing equipment, including advanced robotics technology.
  • Drive technology improvement and provide technical leadership and development for the Maintenance Leads and Planners.
  • Manage the maintenance controllable budgets to ensure AOP commitments are achieved on a budget of $5.2M.
  • Provide technical leadership for focused improvement teams and breakdown analysis.
  • Utilize SAP Maintenance Management Systems to facilitate maintenance control, analysis, recording and reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Establish and manage the annual equipment overhaul plan to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Provide direction to the MRO Coordinator regarding the functions of MRO purchasing and inventory management.
  • Establish and manage a technical training and development program for maintenance personnel.
  • Manage safety programs such as Hot Work Permit program and Non-Routine Tasks.
  • Provide direction and management for preventative maintenance program updates.
  • Establish and meet critical timelines of equipment rebuilds and repairs.
  • Maintain budget control for maintenance and labor expenses.
  • Coordinate with operations to accomplish maintenance activities.
  • Display and utilize analytical and troubleshooting skills for new equipment.
  • Keep abreast of new technological developments, recommending applications when warranted by such developments.
  • Develop and implement creative solutions to plant operational improvement areas.
  • Monitor and upgrade maintenance systems to include: downtime analysis, PM’s, and work order control.
  • Assess and evaluate performance, development, and motivation of the Maintenance team through the yearly performance evaluation system.
  • Explains and enforces Company policies pertaining to safety, quality, and workplace conduct. Ensures full compliance with these policies.
  • Performs contractor safety orientation and maintains files of insurance and other pertinent records
Maintenance Manager Job Requirements:
  • Minimum education - Bachelor of Science Degree or BA degree– with a technical concentration 
  • Minimum five years supervisory experience in plant/manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with successful TPM implementation and operation preferred.
  • Ability to lead in a quickly changing and progressive environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and solve multiple tasks at any given time.
  • Skilled in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
  • Skilled in utility system maintenance practices.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to interface with personnel at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, applied creativity and problem solving skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance scheduling, cost tracking and forecasting.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints including process flow diagrams, P&ID’s, and ladder logic diagrams.
  • Proficient in Mechanical Drive Systems, Hydraulics, Pnuematics, Electricity and electronics, and PLC fundamentals.
  • SAP Experience is a plus.
